Our first dance song!
This one is super easy to play, and a lot of fun.
It took AGES to get the song right, though. The structure was all over the place for a long time, and we must have scrapped at least three or four sections.
All of this was in search of the coveted “below four minutes” runtime. We’ve never released a song under four minutes before, but this will be the first one. We’ve been making a conscious effort to avoid “overstuffing” our songs lately, and it’s really paid off with this one. It’s straightforward, direct, and easy to follow, while still being complex in the fun ways that keep you coming back.
We’ve never done a dance song before, so this was tough to pull off at first. It’s heavily inspired by Paramore’s “Running out of Time,” as well as Jamiroquai. David’s been listening to a lot of Travelling Without Moving lately.
Lyrically, it’s not really about anything yet. The lyrics are all placeholders, and we have no idea where to take them. That’s a problem for future us.
As of right now, this is the top contender for the lead single for the album. It’s short, snappy, and fun, and a good intro to our sound.
Don’t take it personally, ooh
Baby, it’s not what it seems
Go take a picture, make it make sense
When you’re caught in a dream
I awake in the future, I’ve turned to stone
And I’m in trouble till the toll is paid up in full
You say what?
So when the blunderbuss erupts
I guess it’s really not that different
Until the rigor mortis sets in
So when the lights go out and everybody scrambles
Sing a punchlust singalong
Ad nauseam, they’re begging for forgiveness
Sing a punchlust singalong
None!
(If this doesn’t load for you, reload the page. Idk why it does that lol)
We’re still trying to figure out how to make it come across perfectly in a live setting, but we’re getting close.
As of writing (4/3/2024), we just played it for the first time at Treefort, and the crowd really enjoyed it!
