This one was a super special show. Our good friend Preston Valles, general manager of Boise State’s University Pulse Radio, invited us into their studio for the first in their series of in-house live sessions. Special shoutouts to Preston (obviously), Julia DuBois, Sam Woodhouse, and Abbie Alling for helping us play our first ever “live session”-style show!

We used David’s mixer (a Tascam Model 16) for the sound, so David had to be running back and forth setting up the mixer and soundchecking. Eventually we were able to get a pretty solid sound, even though we didn’t have space on the mixer for the kick mic. David’s guitar mic kept goofing out mid-song, so any time you hear his guitar go silent it’s because it let out the loudest sound known to man and we had to mute it. David and Preston mixed this one together, which was really fun.

We went back and forth on the setlist all the way up until recording started, trying to decide whether we should play Dinner at Barkham’s or Here, There, and Back Again. Obviously we had to play Oceansweeper. As of writing this, we’re headed in to the studio to record that song next Sunday!

There were a couple goof ups, and David’s voice was still recovering from some sort of vocal cord tweaking that happened the previous day for no reason (you can hear that most in Here, There, and Back Again), but overall we did a pretty good job and the mix sounds great. Hopefully we can do more of these!

It also premiered on Halloween! How fitting.
